Official Statement
WHEREAS, the future well-being of our society will require a scientifically literate citizenry, and
WHEREAS, the State of Connecticut has enjoyed a long and successful working relationship with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and has benefited from more than one hundred million dollars in annual technological, research and educational contracts; and
WHEREAS, the Connecticut NASA Education Collaborative (CNEC) is a partnership among leading State educational institutions, informal educational science centers, science and technology teacher organizations, and the Connecticut State Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, the CNEC collaborates with local school districts and promotes coordination between the goals of NASA's education programs and initiatives and Connecticut's curriculum reform efforts; and
WHEREAS, the CNEC and NASA's Connecticut Teacher Resource Centers distribute NASA materials that teachers use in their instructional programs and which explore the many science career opportunities in Connecticut; and
WHEREAS, the Connecticut NASA Education Collaborative coordinates and develops a statewide action plan to involve and unite the Connecticut business community to facilitate science, mathematics, and technology education throughout Connecticut; and
WHEREAS, the State of Connecticut commends the Connecticut NASA Education Collaborative on its record of service to the teachers and youth of Connecticut; now
THEREFORE, I, John G. Rowland, Governor of the State of Connecticut, do hereby officially designate the week of October 25-30, 1998 as
CONNECTICUT NASA EDUCATION COLLABORATIVE WEEK.
I urge all of Connecticut's citizen's to participate in the many CNEC events planned throughout the state.
