Lesson 2: Image Type Selection

Congratulations, you now finished lesson one, and have mastered the skills of acquiring images for your graphic presentation, whether by Internet, CD-ROM, scanner, digital camera or digital image. Your that much closer to completing your electronic portfolio. You've carefully selected your image, learned the proper skills to acquire it, utilized the scanner software available to edit it, now the time has come to choose the file type. Let's discuss how we select the proper image file type to save your images.

First we'll have you review a majority of the current image types available, for all things are not equal when selecting image file type. There are two sources from which to gather this information. First you should refer to the dictionary section provided within this site, as well as work through a specially prepared lesson at ScanTips.Com called Graphic file formats - which format to use? Then you'll get the opportunity to practice these new skills as done in lesson 1. And don't worry, within the ScanTips.Com site, there are numerous examples of image file types for you to experience firsthand.

Once you read the onsite material, jump over to ScanTips.Com and select the section: Graphic file formats-which format to use from the main entry page (right hand column). You'll read about other file types such as TIFF and PNG. Feel free to lightly skim over these specific explanations if desired, but be sure to focus on the discussions of those image file types listed above. Upon completing this tutorial lesson proceed on to the practice activity to review your acquisition of the material.
